John Mattar, Ph.D.
Director of Psychometrics @AICPA
John joined the AICPA in June 2007 and leads the psychometricians and data analysts responsible for the validation, assembly, analysis, and scoring of the Uniform CPA Examination, a high-stakes test administered in the US and in select international locations. As staff liaison to the Psychometric Oversight Committee, John’s mission is to ensure that the Examination meets the highest possible level of uniform certification and licensing standards. Prior to joining the AICPA, John was Senior Area Director at National Evaluation Systems, where he directed the development, validation, and scoring of teacher certification exams in multiple states. John holds a Doctorate degree in Education from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Trinity College in Hartford, CT.
Carl Setzer, Ph.D.
Senior Psychometrician @AICPA
As Senior Psychometrician, Carl’s responsibilities include but are not limited to providing psychometric expertise related to new and ongoing test development initiatives; standard setting; collaborating with an external psychometric advisors to identify psychometric priorities and methodologies in support of current and new test development; designing and conducting psychometric research and evaluating and interpreting results; establishing procedures and conducting research to ensure that the Uniform CPA Exam adheres to professional standards of testing; and representing the AICPA to a variety of lay, professional, and technical audiences. Prior to coming to the AICPA, Carl was a Senior Psychometrician at the GED Testing Service in Washington, DC. He earned his Master of Science degree in Survey Methodology from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2004, followed by his Ph.D. in Assessment and Measurement from James Madison University in 2008.
Jessica Lucas
Lead Manager – Test Development and Operations @AICPA
Jessica serves as the Lead Manager of Test Development and Operations for the Examinations team. She is responsible for ensuring the quality of the exam processes from development through delivery and scoring. Jessica also acts as a liaison with our partners at Prometric and NASBA. Prior to joining the AICPA, Jessica was a technical communications professional with experience developing and managing documentation and training programs for clients in the pharmaceutical, telecommunications and financial fields. Jessica holds a master’s degree in Professional and Technical Communication, focused on training methodologies, learning assessment and evaluating processes.
